Overview
The Island Packet 45 is a legendary American bluewater cruiser designed by Bob Johnson and produced by Island Packet Yachts from 1994 to 1998, with 53 units built. At 45.25 feet LOA, it epitomizes the brand's "safety, seaworthiness, and simplicity" ethos, featuring a cutter rig, long keel for unmatched stability, and solid fiberglass construction tailored for couples or small families on extended offshore voyages, trade wind passages, or liveaboard cruising. Its broad beam (13.42 feet) and high coachroof provide exceptional interior volume—sleeping up to 8—with a shoal draft enabling access to shallow anchorages like the Bahamas. Renowned for its robust build (encapsulated lead ballast, no hull core) and forgiving handling, it's a "tortoise" performer prioritizing comfort and security over speed, often hailed as the "gold standard" for 45-foot cruisers.
